Marlborough Sports Garden

A Circular Economy Community Sports Hub on the South Bank

New London Awards 2022: Community Prize

Pineapple Awards 2022: Future Place

Client: Bankside Open Spaces Trust

Architect: Cullinan Studio

The new pavilion for the Marlborough Sports Garden has been conceived so as to improve year round community access to sport, providing a covered space and spectator seating with both summer shade and winter shelter.

The proposal provides a new community hub building with community cafe, community rooms for hire and equipment store enabling a multitude of sports to make use of the facility, including rock climbing, beach volleyball, track and tennis.

The client and design team are working to achieve the ambition of making the site as carbon neutral as possible, and in particular integrating elements of circular economy design wherever possible; including both the facade and structural frame which are all sourced from reclaimed materials and detailed so as to minimise waste and maximise opportunities for future re-use.
