The Green House, Notting Hill

Reworking and extending of a dilapidated family home backing on to shared gardens.

Architect: Tigg Coll

Photography: David Butler

Working closely with the project architect, Ian devised a scheme to open up and increase the size of the lower ground floor to create an open plan family garden room, through a process of careful underpinning, enabling a visual connection to be made from kitchen and dining areas through to gardens beyond.

Floorplates were reworked and strengthened to accommodate a new compact form staircase, maximising the available space at each level, and accommodating new ensuite and bedroom spaces.

The carefully detailed steel moment frames introduced to maintain the stability of the building whilst supporting the floorplates over are visually exposed, telling the story of the evolution of the building, whilst framing views to the rear of the property.
